Many people ask me why I don't fly a higher-performance glider. The simple answer: I consider the passive-safety aspects of more conservative (En C) cross-country wings as valuable "performance" as well. Because I'm not racing anyone but am often flying in marginal conditions, knowing that my glider will stay above my head is a key ingredient to maintaining confidence on an intimidating expedition like this.
