Though they looked promising, if the Monarca Expedition has thought me anything, it's that looks can be deceiving. That said, I launched from the south end of the Mission mountains without allowing my expectations to get to high, but perhaps that was the secret. Within minutes of launching I had reached peak height and, though the stable/windy nature, I had become so familiar with, kept me from climbing high above the peaks, their aspect, combined with the wind, turned into a 30 km long, straight glide right down their spine before requiring me to thermal. Not a bad start!
