The Mighty Saguaro May 14th, 2019

Rising taller than telephone poles, with trunks as thick and woody as any mature tree, the Saguaro cactus are one of the tallest, drought-loving species on the planet. Spread widely throughout southern Arizona, these prickly giants stood tall before many of the areas from which I'd hoped to launch and presented an equally significant challenge when considering safe places to land. Like smaller cactus, they are difficult to identify from the sky and on a satellite map appear as only small rocks or bushes, no larger than they are wide.
