The wind and stability of bone-dry, Southern Arizona getting the expedition off to a slow start, it wasn't until day 44 that we finally pushed past the major milestone of Phoenix and the terrain suddenly became speckled with life. Signs of running water everywhere, the dusty brown had shifted to deep greens, layered over red rock and my fear of landing far from a well and dying of thirst begun to relax.
