
They are actually a legume, similar to a bean, and are a major source of fat and protein for Malawians. Boiled, roasted or pounded into flour, there's no end to what people can do with them. Here they are called "ground nuts" because, while they grow much like beans, they spread underground and have to be dug up before being dried in the sun, then bagged to last throughout the year. Lucky for me I walked right into ground nut season! :) B

Only in my wildest dreams ..a Vol-Biv (fly camp) connecting the mighty Slocan and Columbia Valleys.
Inspired by many great adventurers, pushing the boundaries of this niche sport, this was my first time going at it solo and I am still ecstatically grateful at the result.
