Inversions July 26th, 2016

I spent a total of 5 days at Grouse Moutain before realizing it was the wrong season to fly cross country in that region. The cool air coming off the Pacific made sea level air cooler than the air up high ..nice if you're on the ground but not great if you rely on rising air to make distance. Here you can see the body of colder air trapped under the upper warm layer. In meteorology, this is referred to as an inversion. In the end I had no choice but to begin walking North along the Sea to Sky highway.
